Strawberries, Smiles, and Snuggles

My Sweet Strawberry Blond Baby Boy.
Born almost exactly two years after my Blondie Blond Baby Girl.
This picture shows the touches and smiles and giggles of two best friends who love to snuggle.

And if you look closely, you can see that Sunshine is not just patting Jammer's head.  She is not just lovingly making sure everyone knows that he is hers.  Although she did often do that as well, but on this particular occasion, she was looking for something.

"Mama, where are they?"

"Where are what, Sweetie?"

"Where are the strawberries?"

"The what?"

"The strawberries. Everyone says he has strawberries in his hair."

And so I learned the value of words to a little child.  How they listen to everything you say.  They take it in even when you do not think they are listening and they let it steep.  May God remind me of that and may my words be like honey to my children and to those around me.  May they be sweet strawberry honey to the hearts of others.

I am linking up with a dear community that desires to go deep.  To share with each other, to encourage each other.  And to let everyone else know that behind the scenes may not always be pretty, but God is working there just the same! Check out other wonderful photos here.

Oh Angie, how sweet!!! Love this so much. If only my 3 year old talked of strawberries in hair... instead we have to repeatedly remind him that "poop" is not an acceptable discussion at the dinner table (or many other locations for that matter). But they seem to pick up on the strangest things when we talk to them, don't they? Since my son has a new-found fascination with excrement, I thought I'd explain to him what it really is by explaining how our body throws away the part of food it can't eat, just like we throw away the peel to our banana. He of course retells that lesson to people as our body eats bananas and throws away the peel as poop. Good times :) Your kiddos are just precious :) (And sorry for all the poo talk in my comment - it's neverending in our house unfortunately).

Such a beautiful post, and as they got older such an important reminder to check ourselves. I was listening to a sermon tonight where the pastor said, how you feel about God is in everything you say. From your tone of voice to your word choices. Such a timely post, thank you!

I am laughing and cannot wait to share the banana analogy with my kiddos in the morning! And no worries on the poop talk. My 8 year old was making up new lines to the diarrhea song and...(sheepish grin inserted here) I was teaching him some new ones. It really was a great way to connect with him! :)

Wow! What a great reminder on what you say as well as the importance of how you say it. My kids will say, "Why are you using that squeaky voice, Mommy?" when I do not want to yell, but am trying to say, "Let's hurry, okay?" EPIC BUST!

Oh I love this. Kids are so adorable and have literal abandon that we forget as we get older. There are days when I wish I was looking for strawberries in the hair of a sweet toddler...

This is so lovely! Sometimes children have the most profoundly simple observations.
