This is not really advice, per se, but a call out for facts.
Facts.
And Opinions.
So here is my question:
If you homeschool...
WHY do you do it?
Please tell me the benefits, tell me the reason you would never do "regular" school, tell me the 1000 perks that make you do it...tell me all about the joyful MOMents you experience!
Or even tell me why it is crazy hard, but you love it!
I really want to know.
We always evaluate schooling each year...Now is the time...
We are looking to you for the facts. Your facts. Your Opinions. No, not to make up our mind, but to give us real honest answers.
And...if YOU DO NOT HOMESCHOOL...
WHY do you send your kids to school?
What are the things that you love about school?
Be real, be honest.
What do you gain? What do your kids gain?
Your facts. Your Opinions.
And to say thank you and to show you how important this is to us.
I am offering a free give away.
Okay, I guess that is redundant. If it is free...someone is obviously giving it away!

Benefits of homeschooling:
-snuggling down deep to read a book
-no necessary early morning rising
-kids 24/7 (please see advantages of not homeschooling as well) :)
-knowing your kids inside and out
-your kids knowing you inside and out (not always pleasant to see our sins though...)
-in-depth study of what you want to study
-family togetherness
Benefits of schooling outside the home:
-not 24/7 - some days that is a plus for the whole family
-additional mentors in your children's lives
-different viewpoints shared with your kids- forces your kids to see where they stand; not just parroting what you say
-time for you to make your house a haven
-not being teacher and mom (can be hard on kids and mom to have both roles meshed in one- always a taskmaster)
-family togetherness not always all that it's cracked up to be
-chance to benefit your family financially if that is available (may decrease stress on husband and even family)
There is so much more, and people can counter everything I have said above. As you know, God has His plan for your family. He will accomplish His purposes no matter what. You are wise to seek counsel from others, but in the end, you have to rest in the wisdom He gives you.
Thank you for your wonderful insight and care in your thoughtful answer!
Blessings,
Angie
Can I post, even though I don't have school-aged children? I haven't completely decided whether or not to homeschool, but here are my thoughts on the subject...
Growing up, I would never have considered HSing, because I lived in a small town, and the HS kids were typically farm kids from large families, and were - more often than not - really strange. They seemed unable to adjust to regular social situations, and although they may have been 'book smart', they didn't come across as intelligent.
As an adult, my husband and I began attending a church (now our home church) - in a city, I should add - with a large HSing population. Suddenly I saw a group of kids who were well-adjusted, talented (they could spend a lot of time doing extra-curricular activities, since they only spent a few hours a day 'in school'), and more confident than I ever was in public school.
One argument I had always heard against homeschooling was the idea that 'you shouldn't shelter your children from the real world', which I always agreed with. Until I thought a little bit more about the 'real world' as I learned about it in Kindergarten... and Grade 1... and realized that there is a lot about the 'real world' that NO ONE needs to learn about until they are MUCH older - and I decided that maybe it's ok for kids to not be exposed to some of the things I was until they are old enough to at least understand what these things mean.
So anyway, I'm a homeschooling supporter, but my criteria for homeschooling is that I will be able to put the time and energy into it that my children need and deserve. Many of the issues I have with public school can be helped by parents who are aware of these issues, and help their children overcome them. My husband and I have agreed at the moment that I will probably try homeschooling for 1-2 years, and if I am a success (not a slacker, like I can sometimes be), then I will continue. Otherwise, I will do what I can to help my kids not get 'beaten' by public school...
